Ciptec is an antibiotic that treats various bacterial infections. It functions by attacking the growth of the bacterial cell wall, effectively eliminating gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria. Classified as a beta-lactam antibiotic, Ciptec falls under the first-generation cephalosporins. This medication can address specific bacterial infections, including those affecting the middle ear, bones and joints, skin, and urinary tract. Additionally, it might be used for certain forms of pneumonia, strep throat, and as a preventive measure against bacterial endocarditis.
The typical dosage of Ciptec for adult patients ranges from 250 to 500 mg taken four times a day (every 6 hours). The maximum allowable daily dose for adults is 6 g (1.5 g of Ciptec every 6 hours). For children under 12 years with a body weight of less than 40 kg, the recommended dosage is 25-50 mg of Ciptec per kg of body weight daily, divided into four equal doses. Ciptec tablets should be consumed one hour before meals with a full glass of water. The minimum treatment duration is 7 days, with a maximum of 14 days. In certain circumstances, treatment length may be extended, but only under a doctor's guidance.
Ciptec is generally well tolerated due to its low toxicity and rapid elimination from the body. While side effects are rare when using Ciptec, they may occur in individuals with heightened sensitivity to this antibiotic. Possible side effects include weakness, dizziness, abdominal discomfort, nausea, diarrhea, and itching in the genital and anal areas, as well as candidiasis.
In the event of severe side effects from Ciptec, it is important to reduce the daily dosage and seek medical advice. If side effects are mild and not bothersome, the dosage regimen should remain unchanged.
